Samsung SmartThings app now supports iOS works with Matter devices

The iPhone and iPad versions of the SmartThings app from tech giant Samsung now support Matter devices. According to MacRumors, Samsung's SmartThings is a smart home platform similar to Apple's HomeKit.

Users may now use an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch to manage Matter-enabled smart home appliances that are linked to a SmartThings hub thanks to the new application update.

Apple devices may now be used to operate Matter accessories that are linked to a SmartThings hub, which was previously only possible with an Android device. According to the study, Matter is a smart home standard that can be included with all the main smart home platforms from Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon, and more.

The tech behemoth had, however, earlier this month announced the debut of the SmartThings Station smart home hub, the first Samsung device with a built-in function to enable Matter, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023.

Samsung has declared that the iPhone and iPad versions of its SmartThings app are now compatible with Matter products. Last year, SmartThings got support for Matter, which has since been made available on Android phones and is now coming to iPhones.

The leading provider of linked living and IoT solutions announced that iOS users now have access to Matter controller support. According to the company, the hub offers "simple, interoperable and dependable ways to connect a more significant number of devices" and "quick setup and compatibility with a range of smart home products including Matter devices.

Samsung's SmartThings app for the iPhone and iPad has been updated to include support for Matter devices.

SmartThings, like Apple's HomeKit, is a smart home platform owned by Samsung, according to MacRumors. Users can now use the new application update.

Why is iOS taking so long? In an earlier interview, Samsung stated that iOS 16.1 was required for Matter support in the SmartThings app. Apple introduced Matter support in iOS 16.1 when it was launched in October, but there has undoubtedly been a significant delay since then.

According to a support website from Samsung, iOS 16.2 or later and the app version 1.6.94, which is currently accessible through the App Store, are required for Matter compatibility on iOS.

While the Home app from Apple supports matter products, SmartThings is one choice for a cross-platform app. On Android, the Google Home app already supports matter products, but not at the moment on iOS.
